S.T. Dupont History
In 1872, Simon
Tissot Dupont established a luxury leather goods company in Paris. His mission
was to create products using design and manufacturing techniques that were
different and unique to anything the world had seen. Styled in rare and the most
precious materials, the production of his leather pieces soon incorporated no
less than 17 craft techniques and new materials.
For 75 years he supplied Europe's most discriminating
clients with his unique pieces. By the late 1930's, a shortage of precious
materials forced Dupont to look at other products and in 1941, Dupont launched
its first lighter an aluminium petrol lighter. Using material never used for
lighters previously and incorporating a design never seen before, the lighter
was a huge hit immediately. ST.Dupont's history illustrates how its expertise
first spanned leather goods, jewellery and Chinese lacquer work on metal. These
skills have continued to grow, blossoming into ever more elaborate techniques.
In 1977, S.T.Dupont returned to its first specialty of leather goods, and this
product range has grown continuously since then.
In the 1990s, S.T.Dupont drew
up a design strategy, geared to winning new markets. Building on its time-honoured
strength of unique technical expertise, the Company has focused on creating
sleek, up-to-the-minute designs by creating an interplay of fine materials and
harmonious volumes.
Today, S.T.Dupont offers a complete range of luxury goods for
men. S.T.Dupont is drawing on its rich and diverse past as a springboard for its
aim to be a global lifestyle brand leading the luxury-goods market, and a major
exponent of French workmanship, creativity and quality.
